ABOUT ME

My Story

When I first began my musical journey in 2015, little did I know that I would go on to make music my career.

I started learning flute when I was 10, and to be honest, I did not take it particularly seriously! I continued playing during my time at secondary school and enjoyed playing in the school ensembles and singing in the choirs, but I never considered it more than a hobby.

Suddenly, we were hit by the pandemic in 2020, which led to me spending time at home writing music, and my first ever compositions were born. Even at this stage however, I would never have considered a career in music. Rather, it was just a thing to do in my spare time and acted as a stress relief.

I began Sixth Form in September 2021, planning to go on to study economics at uni. However, I ended up spending more time writing music than ever before, and experimenting composing in a wide range of styles. By January 2022, I realised that this is what I wanted to do with my life, and started looking into a career in music.

At this time, I didn't even know where to begin or what I needed to do, and I certainly had no idea what a conservatoire even was! However, after much research and plenty of support from my teachers at St. Bart's (Mrs. Robertson, Ms. Maunders and Ms. Boggett), I decided that 2022 would be the year that I applied to study composition everywhere in the hope that someone would take me.

I also began conducting around 2022, with being given opportunities to lead on many ensembles. I ended my time at St. Bart's having had chances to conduct in many settings on a wide variety of projects, including: Howard Blake's "The Snowman" performed by the Senior Band (December 2022); Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" performed by the Choir in Italy (July 2023); and "O Little Town of Bethlehem" performed by the Orchestra and Choir in the 2022 Carol Service.

In September 2023, I started the next chapter of my life at the Royal Northern College of Music. Over my first year, I was able to throw myself at numerous opportunities, including a project with the BBC Singers and also featuring in a BBC Radio Mix. I was involved in writing and conducting the RNCM's Children's Opera, as well as arranging for May Payne who went on to win the RNCM Popular Music Gold Medal Award.

Second year at the RNCM has already been incredible, working with the Brand New Orchestra and writing for the Music and Parkinson's research. There's still so much more to come thought, with a chamber opera in the pipeline, as well as collaborations with animators and pop musicians!
